What is l-theanine ?

Anyone with an interest in the getting things done business and a hunger for hot drinks undoubtedly recognizes coffee as the solution.

This because of the substance caffeine in the coffee that stimulates the brain and gives you a feeling of increased energy.

However there is another hot drink that stimulates the brain, but a lot of people forget this hot drink. This hot drink is tea, and it has a substance with far more positive effects than “giving a feeling of increased energy”. The specific substance in tea that is responsible for the relaxing feeling is l-theanine. Sounds amazing right? And today I am going to explain what is l-theanine.

The secret behind the green tea

Around 4000 years ago a Chinese emperor was boiling some water to drink in a plain open field, and the wind blew some leaves into the boiling water. The emperor looked suprisely and took a sip, and so tea was born.

From there on the mix of hot water and leaves played a big role in the human history, to name a few: Zen Buddhism and The American Revolution. The green tea extract business at one point realized that the zen monks drink gallons of green tea, but it never seems to bother them. They never seem to get edgy from all the caffeine that is inside the green tea. So they took green tea and examined it because they realized there must be something in there and they discovered l-theanine was responsible for the positive effects of tea.

Effects of l-theanine

l-theanine is known for the following effects:

  • Reducing anxiety
  • Mood enhancer
  • Better sleep (waking up fully rested)
  • Focus (getting a relaxed but alert mental state)
  • Enhanced cognition

How to take

There are three types of ways to take l-theanine

  • Drinking tea
  • Taking l-theanine
  • Taking sun-theanine

The first way to get l-theanine into your body is by drinking tea. Lots of tea! By lots of I am speaking of 10/15 cups of tea a day! This is because the benefits of l-theanine are only working around the 100-200 mg. And there are a lot of tea with different amounts of l-theanine.

Difference between l-theanine and suntheanine

There are 2 types of capsules: l-theanine and suntheanine. The normal capsule l-theanine contains: the green tea extract l-theanine which is an amino acid. These capsules come in doses from 50 to 200 mg. It is advised to take a max of 200mg 3 times a day.

Suntheanine is a capsule that does not contain green tea extract. Instead of the extract the l-theanie is produced through a fermentation process that mimics the growing process of green tea leaces. It is claimed that this result in 100% pure l-theanine.

Summary

So to answer the question what is l-theanine it is an amino acid that comes from green tea leaves. The benefits are: reducing anxiety, a mood enhancer, better sleep and an increased focus while staying relaxed. Another benefit is it is all natural. In contrast to other supplements that make you drowsy after, l-theanine will not due to the fact it is all natural.

L-theanine is for the hard working student, the person who is about to give a speech for 1000 people who is breaking from the stress and the hard working men who need to sleep. While these are the typical” for who people”I would like to know for what you are using l-theanine head down to the comments and let me know!

Hey there, I'm a former student of nutrition and dietetics. During my study I became obsessed with the positive effects of antioxidants. Unfortunately there wasn't much information available for the antioxidant of tea.

I made Theaninezone for two reasons, to teach others about the positive effects of Theanine and to give you reviewed products that are worth buying.
